Water Accounting and Integrated Reservoir Operations for Narmada River Basin

The Project Development Objective was to enhance the extent, quality, and accessibility of water resources information and to strengthen the capacity of targeted water resources management institutions in India. Previously, the Narmada Control Authority (NCA) used spreadsheets for water accounting procedures. However, NCA aimed to replace these spreadsheet-based methods with a modern computer modelling tool to assist with river basin planning and management, including water accounting functionalities for NCA staff.

Alluvium was involved in several key activities: (i) Acquiring modern water management software, (ii) Applying it in the Narmada river basin, (iii) Using it as a river basin planning tool to investigate the impacts of various decision-making scenarios related to future water use, and (iv) Employing it as a seasonal operational tool to assist with current reservoir operation and water use management.
