Drought Resilience Research and Adoption Investment Plan
Alluvium developed the Drought Resilience Research and Adoption Investment Plan to guide practical, impactful research that builds long-term drought resilience across Australian agriculture, communities, and ecosystems.

Drought is becoming more frequent and severe under climate change, posing significant challenges for agriculture, farming communities, and the natural environment. To strengthen Australia’s ability to adapt, Alluvium, in partnership with the Australian Farm Institute, was engaged by the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment to develop the Drought Resilience Research and Adoption Investment Plan under the Future Drought Fund.
This project focused on identifying critical knowledge gaps and priorities—but more importantly, it explored the most effective ways to ensure that knowledge is adopted and applied where it matters most. By strengthening drought resilience across the economy, environment, and society, this plan supports long-term sustainability for Australian agriculture.
Through nationwide consultations with farmers, agronomists, natural resource managers, government officials, and researchers, the project gathered insights into real-world challenges and opportunities. Our work through this project not only directs research investment but also ensures that the knowledge generated is accessible, practical, and used to drive meaningful change in drought preparedness and response.
