Feasibility Study for Water Supply at Motufoua Secondary School

Alluvium led a feasibility study for the Global Green Growth Institute and Tuvalu’s Ministry of Finance to address critical water shortages at Motufoua Secondary School, delivering practical and inclusive recommendations—such as infrastructure upgrades, expanded rainwater harvesting, and a new desalination plant—to enhance long-term water resilience and equitable access.

The Feasibility Study for Water Supply at Motufoua Secondary School on Vaitupu Island, Tuvalu, addressed the urgent need for a reliable, sustainable water source at the nation’s largest secondary school, which has faced severe shortages during dry seasons.

Commissioned by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and the Ministry of Finance (MoF) of Tuvalu, Alluvium led the study to assess existing infrastructure, water quality, and supply reliability through field missions, inspections, and stakeholder engagement. The project delivered practical recommendations, including system repairs, expanded rainwater harvesting, and a new desalination plant to boost long-term water resilience. A strong focus on Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) ensured the process reflected diverse community needs, supporting equitable access to water and strengthening resilience.
