Cooling Cities using Green Open Spaces Literature Review

There is a need to understand the cooling potential in tropical contexts, given that much of the research on the urban heat island effect, and cooling using blue green infrastructure is undertaken in with Mediterranean climates.

Water Sensitive Cities Australia (WSCA) is a research program within Monash University. It aims to scale up the application of nature-based solutions, particularly in Mekong countries.

As a part of its work, WSCA need to quantify how much heat reduction could be attributed to urban parks in Mekong cities. This metric would then be used to calculate a value dollar for these cooling benefits, as part of the business case for nature-based solutions.

WSCA commissioned Alluvium to undertake a rapid literature review to answer this question, drawing together evidence from Southern Australia and other tropical cities.
