Climate Change and Water Short Courses
Alluvium supported DFAT’s Climate Change and Water Short Courses, delivering training to professionals from Pacific Islands, South/Southeast Asia, and Africa.

Australia has significant expertise in climate change adaptation across natural and socio-economic systems, including in health, governance, disaster management, cities, rural development, and infrastructure. Drawing on this expertise, this project delivered short courses on climate change and water to support the Australian Government’s objectives of showcasing Australia’s expertise and facilitating the transfer of technical skills in key sectors to development and trading partners.
The main objectives of the short courses were to:
• Understand the multidisciplinary nature of climate change and its impact on WaSH & WRM for policy/planning at regional, national, and local levels and considering river basins and catchments;
• Familiarise participants with tools, approaches, and technical skills for assessing the impacts of climate change on WaSH & WRM and water sector investments;
• Develop policy/planning approaches for climate change resilience, adaptation, and mitigation;
• Learn from practical experience in climate change adaption in Australia and the Indo-Pacific in the WaSH & WRM sectors;
• Understand the role of water management in sector-specific mitigation strategies, i.e., energy, buildings, industry, agriculture, forests, and waste management; and
• Build professional contacts and linkages for climate change adaptation and water in the Indo Pacific.
