Bannockburn South West Drainage Assessment
Alluvium worked with the Victorian Planning Authority to deliver an integrated drainage assessment for the Bannockburn South West Precinct—designing stormwater solutions that manage flows, enhance urban cooling, and support public health while responding to the site’s challenging topography and future climate conditions.

The Bannockburn South West Precinct, located within Golden Plains Shire, required a drainage assessment to ensure effective stormwater management amid the region’s topographical challenges. The focus shifted from traditional stormwater treatment and detention to assets that also offer public health, amenity, and urban cooling benefits.
Alluvium, engaged by the Victorian Planning Authority (VPA), conducted a drainage assessment to analyze pre- and post-development stormwater flows and propose solutions that meet best practice environmental management guidelines. The assessment also aimed to create assets that provide urban cooling and public health benefits while accommodating site constraints, such as steep escarpments along Bruce’s Creek.
The project explored integrated water management (IWM) options, considering climate change impacts on peak flow events and various outfall options to mitigate stormwater issues. The analysis ensured that drainage infrastructure would meet both Council expectations and sustainable urban development goals.
